Happy Spring! Love in Wartime Release! NPR! TOUR! Festivals! Shows with Steep Canyon Rangers! TOUR!
We haven’t written in awhile. We hope you were upset and slightly destabilized by the fact that we hadn’t written in awhile, and relieved and incredibly excited that we’ve now written.
We’ve been in a nervy, restless state — waiting to share our new album, Love In Wartime, with you. Finally the date is nearly upon us, as well as a full year of touring and festivals in support of it... Love in Wartime, co-produced by Luther Dickinson (North Mississippi Allstars) and JT, will be released May 4th on Signature Sounds Recordings. You can hear the first single "Roll Away" on Spotify and/or pre-order the new album via your preferred purveyor of fine music here: https://lnk.to/loveinwartime NPR via Folk Alley has tapped “Roll Away” as a song public radio can’t stop playing.
Our Love in Wartime Tour dates start, as it is only right they should, in the Great Lakes. Minneapolis- April 5th at the Turf Club - Them Coulee Boys open . Milwaukee- April 6th the Back Room at Colectivo Coffee - an evening with. Ann Arbor- April 7th at The Ark.... and then homecoming- Chicago- April 8th at Thalia Hall - we’ll be joined by Nashville’s own Steelism for both of these shows. They were the toast of AmericanaFest for good reason - not to be missed... Thalia Hall is one of the premiere venues on the planet - of any size — and it’s a thrill to return there. We’ve been missing our dear town so much.. it’s going to be a special night on a lot of levels. We will have hard copies of Love in Wartime, CD and Vinyl (vinyl!!!!!!) almost a month before the May 4 release date. And, our EP American Flowers, which until now has existed only in digital form (that means just ones and zeros) will EXIST in physical form and be on sale that night... as many of you know, we’ve been donating to Teen Living Programs - the incredible group working with at risk and homeless kids on Chicago’s South Side for the American Flowers release. 20% of sales go to TLP, and there will be a large group of the inspiring and fantastic kids they work with on hand that night... this makes us so happy we can’t stand it. We stop by Arkansas for two shows wsg Smokey & The Mirror- at South On Main in Little Rock April 12th, and Brew Room Sessions at Bike Rack Brewing in Bentonville April 13th.
Then it’s Europe. Netherlands. Belgium. Ireland. The UK. Starting April 21st at Paradiso Amsterdam. It’s been too long since we’ve seen our extended familia on that side of the water, and we’re more than ready. Especially thrilled to be bringing the full band over for the first time — we’ll be rocking the quintet the entire run. Dance moves shall be executed and observed for cultural comparative studies. The Ireland shows have already sold out - get your tickets in advance if you can.
Then it’s Festival Season... We are playing Cambridge Folk Festival for the first time this year thanks to guest artist curation of the luminous, luminary Ms. Rhiannon Giddens. We’ve got a full summer - we get to return to some favourites - Kilkenny Roots Fest, Delfest, Nowhere Else Festival, High Sierra Fest, Green River Festival, Bear Creek Music Festival, Fayetteville Roots Festival- and play some for the first time like Nelsonville Music Fest, Kingsville Folk Fest, and Cambridge Folk Fest. In June we’ll also be popping up to Alberta to open two shows for the fabulous Steep Canyon Rangers - in Calgary, and Edmonton.
There will be more #LoveinWartimeTour fall shows announced soon. Pushing new music out into the world is our tonic for all manners of soul-agitation, and we NEED to be out there among you, sharing these songs. Tell your lover, tell your second cousin, tell your alderman. Let’s congregate.
Peace, Love, Music,
Your Birds
