O Canada!
Canada -- stop what you're doing! Whatever you're doing right now, please just stop it. Birds of Chicago are coming - really and truly and immediately. It's our first proper cross-Canada tour and we couldn't be more excited.
This is a particularly big deal for Alli, who made this particular trek more than a few times with Po' Girl... With family in Victoria, Vancouver (which is sold out so if you missed out on tix perhaps a trip to Victoria the night before?), Calgary, Edmonton, Regina, Winnipeg, Toronto, Peterborough, Ottawa/Wakefield, QC, and Montreal (all stops on the tour), this is an especially sweet homecoming tour.
We kicked off the tour on September 27th with a sold out show on magical Salt Spring Island, at the Pitchfork Social concert series... We were spoiled obscenely by those wonderful folks - thanks and more thanks for currating such a cool series and taking such tremendous care of us.
We dip back down to the US for one show with our dear friends at the Boston Harbor Marina, in sunny Olympia, WA, Friday Sept 30th. Cam and Katharine Foster-Kedie have created such a gem of a live music space right there on the dock of the bay .. Weather permitting, we'll keep this show outdoors -- if it gets too cold or blustery, we'll move it indoors... Tix are available at the Marina, or over the phone.
After that, we'll get ourselves back north of the border. Things begin at the grande ole Cumberland Hotel in Cumberland, BC. This show is put on by our old pal, Doug Cox - who gave Birds of Chicago one of our first Canadian shows a couple years back at his perennially fantastic Vancouver Island Music Fest- there were only nine tickets left for this one at the last count... Then it's over to Victoria, then the big homecoming SOLD OUT show at St James Hall, presented by the wonderful Rogue Folk Club in Vancouver on Oct 7 - and then we move on east...
Holy cow are we stoked that Deep Dark Woods frontman Ryan Boldt will be opening most of the Western Canadian shows on this tour with his solo project. He will be slinging his truth and beauty doses all the way to Calgary with us, and perhaps beyond. Check the listings for the specific nights.
The Canadian tour will wrap up in early November, with dates in Quebec and Ontario, and then we will do things in places that are not Canada -- but to talk about them now would disrupt the intensely Canadian character of this email, and we really don't want to do that. We won't do it.
See you out there -
Peace, Love, and Music,
your Birds of Chicago
